Disneyland Paris – Before You Go

Disneyland Paris – Before You Go

We visited Disneyland Paris (DLP) for the first time last Christmas, arriving on the 20th of December and leaving on the evening of the 23rd. This 3 nights/4 days period was the perfect length of time to experience Disneyland and take in all the attractions and entertainment it has to offer.

Based on our experience of visiting with a young family, including an 8-year old boy and 4-year-old boy/girl twins, I decided to put together a series of DLP guides, starting with this one focussing on things I recommend doing before you go. Guides on Attractions, Entertainment and Parades, Character Meets and Dining, and a review of our accommodation at Davy Crockett Ranch will be following soon.

5 Things To Do

Join DLP Facebook Groups

You will find some useful information about visiting DLP on Facebook groups and in forums, so it is worth joining them before you go. If you are in the UK, I recommend the Disneyland Paris for Brits group on Facebook. Just don’t get too caught up on negative comments, as we all know sometimes things get a little exaggerated on social media.

Download the Disneyland Paris App

The Disneyland Paris app is a must have as it is packed full of useful information which will help with planning before you go and is invaluable while there.

It is great for familiarising yourself with the layout of the parks ahead of your visit which you can do by exploring the interactive map that lists the attractions, restaurants and restrooms along with information on Parades and Shows and opening and queue times.

Familiarise Yourself with the FASTPASS Service

The FASTPASS Service allows you to reduce the wait time required for a ride. You will find a FASTPASS machine at the entrance of each attraction that offers it which allows you to use your park admission ticket to get a FASTPASS ticket. You can only have one FASTPASS ticket at a time per person and another ticket can only be obtained once the previous one has been used or 2 hours after the previous one.

I love the fact you can grab a FASTPASS for the popular rides and then go and enjoy the rest of the park without having to use up lots of time waiting in line. For more information on the FASTPASS Service and the full list of rides that it is offered head over here

Know the Height & Age Restriction

If you are visiting with small children it is worth being aware of height restrictions ahead of time so you can plan what attractions to add to your hit list along with those you wish to use rider swap for. Rider Swap cuts out the need for people to queue more than once when one or more people in the group do not, or can not, use the ride.

Similarly, there are age restrictions for some attractions.

All of these restrictions will be displayed at the entrance to attractions along with a height checking bar and any additional medical information.

Extra Magic Hours

If you are staying in Disney accommodation you get to enjoy some extra magic and have early access to the parks. This is great for character meets and getting on the more popular, busier rides before general park admission so try and find these out ahead of time, especially if you are making breakfast reservations before going.

Next up…

Next in my series of Disneyland Paris guides is on Park Attractions so keep an eye out for it.
